An MOT is not the same as a service
The MOT checks specific safety and environmental standards. It does not assess the general mechanical condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox, and the wheels are not removed during the brake inspection.
Understanding the result
The MOT result records defects using defined categories.
The vehicle fails. The defect represents a direct and immediate risk or serious environmental impact.
The vehicle fails because the defect may affect safety, the environment or put other road users at risk.
The vehicle can pass, but the defect should be repaired and monitored.
The item is not defective enough to fail, but it may require attention in the future.
Quick checks before your appointment
These simple checks may prevent avoidable delays or failures.
Common questions about Class 4 MOT
When can I renew my MOT?
You can normally have the test up to one month, minus one day, before the current MOT expires and retain the same renewal date.
How long should I allow?
Allow approximately the stated appointment duration for the test. Additional time may be needed if the vehicle requires diagnosis, repairs or a retest.
What happens if the vehicle fails?
We explain the recorded defects and can send each required repair and advisory to your portal with a price, failure reason and accept or decline button.
Can I drive after an MOT failure?
This depends on whether the existing MOT is still valid and whether a dangerous defect was recorded. The vehicle must remain roadworthy at all times.
Is collection available?
Yes. Enter the collection postcode during booking and the system calculates the road distance and collection plus return-delivery fee.
